Top Dog is very lightweight.
In a nutshell, if you have
a computer running MS Windows and an email account you can use Top Dog.
The following are the detailed
requirements to run Top Dog.
- Computer running Windows
95 or higher (95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, XP).
- Any email program able to
check POP servers (most any email program such as Outlook, Netscape
or Eudora).
- Three megabytes of disk
storage (very small, approximately the size of two floppies).
- Access to a POP email server
or a Hotmail or msn webmail account.
- Winsock 2. - Some early
versions of Windows 95 came with Winsock 1.
If you are running an early version of Windows 95 and have not yet upgraded
to Winsock 2 you can download the free update from Microsoft here.
Top Dog will let you know if you are currently using Winsock 1, so you
shouldn't have to worry about this.
If you are currently using
email, chances are that Top Dog will work for you.
The major exception to this
is if you are using a web only email account other than Hotmail
or msn (such as Yahoo).
If you have such an account, you can still use Top Dog by running a webmail
program such as Web2Pop.
Another exception to this is
if you require the use of IMAP or the Microsoft
Exchange Server protocol.
Note: Microsoft Exchange
Server also includes support for the POP protocol. So you can use
Exchange Server with POP.
Future versions of Top Dog
will support Exchange Server
and IMAP as well as a number of additional web based email accounts.
