Top Dog enables you to
create custom rules to be applied to incoming email.
This tab is where you create
the rules that determine what rules Top Dog applies to incoming messages.
The list on the left hand side
of the tab is your list of rules.
If you have just started to use Top Dog you may not have any rules defined
other than the "Apocgraphy Rule".
The Apocgraphy Rule is a predefined rule that comes with Top Dog.
You can change it's settings using the settings on the Protection
Tab.
You can not delete this rule but you can disable it by unchecking the
check to the left of the rule.
You can create new rules by
pressing the "New Rule" button beneath the list.
You can enable or disable rules by simply clicking on the check box beside
the rules name in the list on the left.
You can change the order that
the rules are performed by simply dragging and dropping the rules where
you want them.
This is important because if you perform some action that results in the
destruction of the message, needless to say no further rules will be applied
to it.
Once you have created a rule
you need to choose a test, an action to perform as well as choose if you
want the action to be performed if the email passes or fails then test.
If you want to a rule to depend upon more than one test you must combine
the multiple tests into a single Logical Test and then use that in your
rule.
If you want to a rule to perform more than one action you must combine
the multiple Actions into a single Combination Action and then use that
in your rule.
The only other thing is the
Comments box.
These comments are for your own benefit only.
Top Dog uses them only rarely when doing things like adding an explanation
as to why a message was sent to purgatory or whatever.
It is a good idea to comment your rules though, as it is often difficult
to remember what the rule does at a later date.
Choosing descriptive names for your rules also helps in this respect.
