The Senders Tab controls
how Top Dog deals with email depending on who is sending it.
Approved Senders.
Top Dog keeps a list of people
that are whitelisted
(pre-approved) to send you email.
If someone is whitelisted
then email from them is always allowed through.
Add people to whom I send mail,
to the Approved Senders list.
If this option is checked then
Top Dog will automatically whitelist anyone you send email to.
In order to take advantage of this option you must have the Process
outgoing email option turned on.
You can also use this list
as part of your Rules
to avoid screening messages from people you have sent messages to.
The
purpose of this is to build up a list of people who you know are not spammers
and then use this list to avoid mistaking a message from them as spam.
Normally, you want to hear back from anyone to whom you send messages.
You
can manually add, edit or delete items from this list using the Edit
List... Button.
You can also specify wildcards
in your list of Approved Senders.
This is useful if you work for a company and want to accept any messages
from anyone in your company. For example if you work for Mom's Cookies
Inc. you may want to add *@MomsCookies.com
to your list of Approved Senders.
When I receive a whitelisted
e-mail, add all the other recipients to the Approved Senders list.
This option is another way
of enabling Top Dog to build a list of whitelisted
senders.
Normally, if someone you trust not to send commercial spam send mail to
you then the other people they send the email to can also be trusted not
to send commercial spam.
For example: If you whitelist
your mom and your mom sends you and your brother an email then your brother
would automatically be whitelisted as well.
Then later if your brother sends you an email Top Dog will know that he
is not a spammer and not screen the email even if the email looks very
spammy.
Add Address Book to Approved Senders
List...
Press this button to have Top
Dog scan your address book and message store to build a list of whitelisted
senders.
This process is normally done when you install Top Dog and updated periodically,
but you may want to do it manually if you chose not to do in as part of
the install process or you have recently updated your address book and
want Top Dog to be aware of the changes immediately.
Edit List of Approved Senders...
Press this button to edit your
list of whitelisted senders.
You can manually remove people from the list if you no longer want to
receive mail from them or add people who are not yet in your address book.
Manually editing this list is not usually necessary since Top Dog automatically
updates the list any time you categorize an email as personal.
Banned Senders.
Top Dog also keeps a list
of blacklisted
senders who you never want to receive mail from.
When you categorize and email as commercial spam Top Dog automatically
blacklists the sender.
This way if that sender sends you more spam in the future Top Dog will
know that you are not interested in reading it.
Action To Take.
Use this option to tell Top
Dog what you would like to happen when you receive an email from someone
in your banned senders list.
The recommend action is to send the email to the Doghouse
since this will give you a chance to change your mind later.
Email in the Doghouse
will be deleted after the number of days specified on the receiving
tab.
Edit List of Banned Senders...
Press this button to edit your
list of blacklisted
senders.
You can manually add people from the list if you no longer want to receive
mail from them or remove people who you have changed your mind about.
Manually editing this list is not usually necessary since Top Dog automatically
updates the list any time you categorize an email as spam.
As with all lists, you can
also specify wildcards
in your list of Banned Senders.
This is useful if you
receive a lot of spam from a certain domain or company but from different
people in that company.
For example you could blacklist *@FreeViagra.com
if that company kept sending you spam.
