Requirements
Spam Hound is very lightweight.

In a nutshell, if you have a computer running MS Windows and an email account you can use Spam Hound.

The following are the detailed requirements to run Spam Hound.

  • Computer running Windows 95 or higher (95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, XP).
  • Any email program able to check POP3 servers (most any email program such as Outlook, Netscape or Eudora).
  • Three megabytes of disk storage (very small, approximately the size of two floppies).
  • Access to a POP3 email server account (This is by far the most common type of email account).
  • Winsock 2. - Some early versions of Windows 95 came with Winsock 1.
If you are running an early version of Windows 95 and have not yet upgraded to Winsock 2 you can download the free update from Microsoft here.
Spam Hound will let you know if you are currently using Winsock 1, so you shouldn't have to worry about this.

If you are currently using email, chances are that Spam Hound will work for you.

The major exception to this is if you are using a web only email account such as Yahoo.
If you have such an account, you can still use Spam Hound by running a webmail program such as Web2Pop.
If you have a web based email account with either Hotmail or msn then you can get all the power of Spam Hound and much more with Top Dog.
Top Dog also gives you access to Hotmail and msn accounts.

Another exception to this is if you require the use of IMAP or the Microsoft Exchange Server protocol.
Note: Microsoft Exchange Server also includes support for the POP protocol. So you can use Exchange Server with POP.

Future versions of Spam Hound will support Exchange Server and IMAP as well as a number of additional web based email accounts.
