Opening/Fixing your ShoqBox

The following is a little explanation of how to open your ShoqBox.
I had this problem where the backlight went out on my PS110 and shortly after that the whole thing went flaky.
It seemed to be a physical problem since bumping it would turn the unit off.
Also, plugging/unplugging cords from it would also cause it to loose power.
The cause of the problem was a connector inside which connects the two boards together.
Not a big deal to fix.
As is often the case, the biggest problem was getting into the thing without breaking anything.
As it happened the only injury was one of the little rubber pads at the bottom which I ripped off trying to see if they popped out and had screw hidden behind them.
Often rubber pads have conical bits that just push in.
The ShoqBox does not!
Pulling on them just breaks them.(

It goes without saying that no warrantee is expressed or implied, you will void your warranty and injury and/or death will most likely result
That being said, here is how to do it.

Note: At no time should you have to force anything!
If you find you are forcing then stop.
You're doing something wrong.

Materials required are:

  • Butter knife
  • ShoqBox
  • Jeweler's Philips screw driver

The next step is the most difficult.
What you need to do is insert the butter knife in the crack between the face plate and the body of the ShoqBox.
The two pieces should separate a bit, at which point you pry the two bits apart.
If you want to avoid making a nick you'll want to keep your knife reasonably parallel to the PS110.
The face plate should just pop off.

That was the hard part.
Now simply unscrew the four screws holding each of the speakers on.
One nice thing is that all the screws on the PS110 are the same size.
That means that you don't have to worry about mixing them up.
Just have a mug handy to keep them from rolling all over the place.

At this point the speakers should fall out.

Now a sneaky one.
You now have to remove the center screw in the back of the PS110.
(Note the missing pad on the bottom of the unit. A result of me looking for an opening. Gurr!!!)

At this point the ShoqBox should separate easily.

At this point I spent some time poking around at things to see what would cause my ShoqBox to loose power.
As mentioned at the top, it turned out to be the plug connecting the two boards.
In the picture below it is circled in red. I just pushed it together and everything worked great.
For the purposes of illustration I also removed the two screws circled in pink which allows you to remove the board.

Well that's it.
Assembly is just the reverse.
The only thing worthy of noting is that the speakers are not symmetric.
You must not install them upside down.
The wires go towards the outside of the PS110, not towards the inside as is more natural.

What follows is just a few shots for the curious.
