The pictures tab allows you to control how Security Bulldog handles pictures in email.

Security Bulldog allows you to control what pictures are allowed through to your email reader.

Pictures
This setting controls how pictures will be allowed through to your email reader.
Some email readers will display pictures when you view an email.
Depending on how the picture is included in the email this may have privacy implications.
The recommended option is "Prompt" which will give you the option of viewing the picture or not.

If Security Bulldog blocks a picture it will advise you as to why it has done so and provide you a link to retrieve the original email with pictures intact.

There are three ways a picture may be included see the explanation of the Advanced option for the explanation and implications of these three ways.

The choices are:

  • Block Pictures
If this option is chosen, Security Bulldog will block all pictures.
This includes all types of pictures.

  • Allow All
If this option is chosen, Security Bulldog will allow all pictures through.
Note: This may have privacy implications and so is not recommended.

  • Prompt (recommended)
If this option is chosen Security Bulldog will allow attached pictures through.
However, any time your email reader attempts to display pictures in the email it's self Security Bulldog will prompt you as to whether you would the picture to be displayed.

    • Download Pictures (Web Bugs)
Formatted email may contain references to pictures that are downloaded from the sender's computer when an email is opened or previewed.
This setting determines what you would like Security Bulldog to do when it discovers a picture like this in your email.
Allowing pictures to be downloaded may have privacy and security implications since it causes your computer to connect to the senders computer.
As a result the email sender could be informed every time you open the email.
This could result in their confirming that your email address is valid which could result in additional spam if the sender is a spammer.
The sender could also read or place cookies on your computer allowing them to track your internet usage.
It could also result in the sender being informed as to what program you use to read email, your internet address (IP) as well as the operating system you are running and whether or not you have installed the latest security patches.
This information could be used by a hacker to break into your computer.
