The
attachments tab allows you to control what file attachments Security Bulldog
will allow through.
Instead of only removing known
viruses, Security Bulldog can remove any attachments that could
potentially harm your computer.
Attachment Blocking
This control allows you to determine what attachments Security Bulldog
will block.
Security Bulldog will add a note to the email inform you any time it has
deleted an attachment.
In the event that you want an attachment that was blocked you can retrieve
the original email with attachments intact with a simple click.
The choices are:
- Block All Attachments
Choose this option to have Security Bulldog remove all attachments from
your incoming email.
While this option is the most secure, it will block even files like
plain text files that cannot be harmful to your computer.
This option is only recommended if you are sure that you do not want
any attachments of any kind.
- Block Suspicious Attachments
(recommended)
If this option is chosen Security Bulldog will block file types that
are very dangerous like executables.
However, in addition to this it will block files that are not generally
considered dangerous but could theoretically be hazardous.
An example of this is HTML documents.
The document it's self may not be dangerous but it may cause your web
browser to download something dangerous.
Security Bulldog will also examine the email format for anything that
may lead to a misleading or ambiguous interpretation of the attachment.
An example of this is a file with two file extensions like "ReadMe.txt
.exe".
Another example is a file with more than one file extension specified
in different places or who's MIME type differs from it's file extension
type.
- Block Dangerous Attachments
Choose this option if you would like to block only files that are known
to be dangerous.
E.g. .exe, .pif, .hta, cpa, ...etc.
You can include or exclude files from this list by editing the danger
level using the View File Type Information...
dialogue.
- Block No Attachments
This option will turn off all attachment screening.
All attachments will be allowed
through regardless of their potential to harm your computer.
This option is not recommended.
View File type information
Security Bulldog comes with a built in list of over 7,000 file types,
what they contain and the risk level associated with them.
You can edit this list to block or unblock any file type you like.
To ensure that Security Bulldog never blocks a file you can set it's risk
level to "Low".
If you would like Security Bulldog to block a file set it's risk level
to "Very High".
If the risk level is set to something in-between Security Bulldog will
only block it if the Attachment blocking level is set to "Block Suspicious
Attachments".
